Praise God! There’s a Swig & Swine right by our house now.
What makes this BBQ joint stand out from dozens of others in the Charleston, SC area? It’s the ability to serve kids, feed them and their parents great food, and somehow still give the couple sitting beside them a great night out.
Babysitting doesn’t come cheap and finding time for a date can be next to miraculous. When I get to go out with my husband I want crazy-good food, a clean and comfortable atmosphere, and stellar service. If I order the brisket I’d like it to fall apart in my mouth. When I use the restroom I want it to be a cringe-free experience. If I order a drink I’d like to have it ASAP. I’m not talking about a seductively romantic candle-lit dinner here. I’m talking a tasty night out with my partner in parenthood. How many of you would like one of those?!
Let’s talk about what to order. I say (even if it’s just the two of you) get the Swig & Swine family platter. Eat what you can and take the rest home because it’s worth it. Seven meats and three large sides are enough for six people to kill off immediately, but bring home the leftovers and you’ll be happy campers the rest of the week!
However, the time I ordered a limited time special brisket on jalapeño rye bread with pimento cheese… oh boy, it was righteous.
My kids resist the urge to bug the folks sitting next to us at Swig & Swine because the service is fast, the kids’ menu speaks to them, and they can color their little hearts out. When your littles are expecting a meal right away, it’s hard to keep them happy as they wait. Shoot, it’s hard to keep ME happy while I’m waiting for hot-off-the-grill ribs! I can’t tell you how thankful I am for the quick service *wipes forehead in relief*.
And yet, on the date nights I’ve spent there I feel no pressure to call for the check. Swig & Swine gives us uninterrupted dessert time. I get to enjoy myself, feast on the coconut pie, and hang out with my spouse without being rushed. That’s when you know the service is attentive; they sense where you’re at and accommodate appropriately.
Swig & Swine has 2 locations in South Carolina – West Ashley and Summerville. They are open 7 days a week from 11am-10pm and really take care of their customers. Follow their Facebook page for updates and on Instagram for their latest deliciousness.

If you’re looking for a less crowded dinnertime try between 5-6pm. That’s usually when I hit them up and grab myself a cold Kentucky Bourbon Ale on tap. Maybe I’ll see you around!
