Giveaway closed: The winner has been picked! Kitchen decor has not been my strong suit. It’s not that I only seek function, but rather, I’ve had trouble making commitments to a certain style. I’m the kind of person who likes a little bit of everything and it handicaps my decision-making abilities! Since our move from New York to South Carolina, we’ve been calling a little 850sq. foot apartment our home. And if you’ve been a renter you know that decorating your space comes with a few limitations. Add this to my already hindered style and you get total defeat. Except lately I’ve been working on changing that sorry attitude and getting over the silly (and imaginary) hurdles. For instance, one of the things that just kills me about renting is the fire extinguisher’s obvious presence. Maybe I should appreciate that I have a potentially life-saving device within arms reach but most of the time I’m just annoyed. First world problems, I know. So I’ve decided to add some simple kitchen decor to the nearby wall and whaddya know? I barely notice the fire extinguisher anymore. Another surprising discovery was how this beautiful piece helped take the focus away from my cluttered stash of mixing bowls, pot lids, and strainers. Oh yeah, and did you see those 12-pound weights on the floor? Well, I hardly remember they’re there anymore because I’m enjoying the view of my suddenly grown-up wall. What I’ve realized is that the more I make an effort to add beauty to my kitchen, the more I ENJOY being in the kitchen. And if you already have a hard time getting motivated to cook, adding some simple kitchen decor can boost you up. Who wants to work in a drab and depressing room? If I’m going to be slaving away at the stove, it had better be in a space I actually LIKE! I owe much of the victory over this part of the kitchen to Randi Bernard, the owner of Haven & Hound. She made that charming coffee sign that brightens up my wall and my mood. And she’s a fellow South Carolina resident! Her signs are all handmade construction, hand painted, and beautified with her freehand lettering. That makes this piece something special.
We’ve decided to celebrate this week’s post with a giveaway – an identical handmade sign! Haven & Hound is interested in making simple kitchen decor easy for you so why not take advantage? Haven and Hound creates a quality product that’s PRETTY and ready to mount. This piece is very lightweight and could easily be hung on a removable hook. That’s important to renters who aren’t allowed to nail anything in the wall. 🙂
