Plain and simple recipe for how to make stovetop popcorn for an after school snack, lunch box item, or movie night treat. No-burn method easily makes 4 quarts worth!
  • ½ cup popcorn kernels
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  1. Add popcorn kernels to a large pot along with the vegetable oil. Heat on medium high and stir occasionally to keep heat even.
  2. Wait for the first pop and cover. Shake the pot over the burner slightly so the kernels stay on the bottom instead of rising up with the popped popcorn.
  3. When popping slows down to more than a couple seconds in between pops remove from heat and immediately pour into an extra large bowl. Serve stovetop popcorn plain or add salt and butter to your liking! Store in an airtight container on the counter. Or in sandwich bags for the lunch box!
